What makes the CVF Diopter so special?

The patent-pending CVF Diopter is actually a multi-lens assembly loaded with benefits like personalized focusing, image magnification up to 50%, internal anti-reflection coatings, electromagnetic field emission filters, anti-fogging design and scratch proof surface. All this is packed into an eyepiece designed to simply replace your existing cover plate.

"I only need reading glasses...will the CVF Diopter help me?"

Absolutely! This group represents the greatest number of CVF Diopter users. They had no problems with their viewfinders until they hit their mid-40s. If you see well when looking at distance objects yet have trouble with fine print, the CVF Diopter is for you!

"I must tilt my head back to see through bifocals...can the CVF Diopter help?"

The CVF Diopter can be adjusted for almost anyone's vision needs. For the cameraman who wants to stay with his bifocals, the appropriate CVF Diopter can allow him to view the display through the top of his bifocals rather than having to tilt his head back to look through the bottom.

"I wear contact lenses…will the CVF Diopter still work for me?"

Yes! Wearing contacts only means that your viewing eye is distance-corrected when looking into the viewfinder. The most common user of the CVF Diopter has good distance vision and wears glasses only to read. Give us all of your information and our experts will make all the necessary calculations for your personal-best vision.

"Should I consider getting a CVF Diopter even if I have no problem seeing in my viewfinder?"

Benefits such as magnification, antifogging. EMF blocking and scratch proof exterior surface are independent of the personalized focusing power CVF Diopters can provide.

How does the CVF Diopter decrease fog formation?

Your existing camcorder viewfinder cover plate is made of thin glass, which has almost no heat retention or insulating value. As your face adds heat and moisture to the small chamber in front of your eye, the cold air within the viewfinder cools the plate. Just like single-pane windows of yesteryear, moisture condenses on the warm side of the cover plate. The patent-pending CVF Diopter has an insulating layer of air trapped between two thicker lenses. Tests have shown this feature significantly delays fogging. Keeping a second CVF Diopter in a warm pocket for a quick swap-out buys even more time!

Why is ultraviolet light blocking important?

This is an interesting question that apparently has never been studied by the professional video camera industry. Here are the facts: 1) The cathode ray tube (CRT) display emits EMFs in the ultraviolet range; 2) ultraviolet light can negatively affect human tissue, 3) An ENG professional holds his eye within 4 inches of the viewfinder monitor for hours and hours!

What makes the CVF Diopter so scratch resistant?

Glass, under normal wiping conditions is essentially scratch proof. Your existing cover plate is also made of glass but may have anti-reflection coating on both surfaces. This is unfortunate because this fragile coating becomes scratched after the constant wipings that occur under professional conditions. Anti-reflective coating is only needed on the inner surfaces to reduce internal reflections. It is unnecessary on the outer eye-side of the cover plate or eyepiece. Only the internal surfaces of the CVF Diopter have anti-reflection coatings. You can wipe its outer surfaces thousands of times with no effect.

"My prescription is very old…does that matter?"

Your eye doctor is required to keep your spectacle prescription on file for many years. It is part of your medical record...it belongs to YOU. So if you know where you got your last eye examination, even long ago, those findings are quite usable in this case. The CVF Diopter will be designed to put your focus in the middle of your viewfinder focusing range. Even if is off by a bit, your camera viewfinder's focusing range adjustments are adequate to sharpen the image. And, remember, we guarantee success. In the rare event that your first CVF Diopter does not put your focus in the middle of the viewfinder's optics range, we'll gladly exchange it for the right one!

"I can’t remember when I got my eyes examines last…how do I get my prescription?"

Regular eye examinations are recommended but you can order without a recent prescription. At any optical store, an optician can determine the prescription of your glasses with a device called a "lensometer". Opticians are there to sell you glasses so getting him to write out your numbers may be a little awkward. A good strategy is for you to tell the optician that you want to order scuba mask inserts...products with which an optician is familiar but typically does not sell. Most opticians will be eager to help, but an offer of a tip won't hurt.

"I want to try a CVF Diopter but I confused about how to order!"

Still have questions? Vision and optics can be confusing. We are trying to create a relatively easy internet ordering system, but we understand it won't work in everyone's situation. Please feel free to contact us by email, or call us, toll free, at 1-866-JOB-2020.

How much does a CVF Diopter cost?

All of the standard Sony CVF Diopters are $390. Shipping is $7 per order. There is currently no tax on any prescription items sold in our state of Georgia. We encourage enquiries concerning discounts for large orders, company accounts and resellers.
